Child Wellbeing and how to safeguard our children
Safeguarding our children
Safeguarding is everybody's responsibility.
At Kingsleigh Primary School we have a duty of care to ensure that everyone within our school is kept safe from harm. We are committed to provide a secure and supportive environment, safeguarding children is an essential part of our school culture, ensuring all children are protected from abuse and neglect and that every child reaches their full potential.
The best interests of the children will always be our priority. As such, there are times we will need to record, monitor and share information with other agencies. We will share concerns about our pupils with the child’s parents/carers unless we have reason to believe that such a move would not be in the child’s best interest.
What can you do?
Parents and carers play a role in safeguarding children in their community. If you have any concerns, no matter how small, you should report them to someone who you trust will listen. The school is required to have a designated child protection officer for this purpose. Parents and children should speak to the safeguarding officer if they have any concerns about a child or staff member.
Anyone who has a concern about a child should report it to the Safeguarding Hub. Call 01202 123334 between 8.30am and 5.15pm Mon to Thurs or 8.30am-4.45pm on Friday. Outside of these hours call 01202 738256. If it is an emergency call the police on 999.
Kingsleigh Primary School takes the safeguarding of all pupils seriously and recognises it is everyone’s responsibility. Our Safeguarding Policy: Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy

Online Safety at Home: How to keep your children safe online
With all the different means of accessing the internet, we know children and young people may spend more time online, especially as a result of the pandemic and lockdowns. The internet is an amazing resource and increasingly younger children are using it. It enables children and young people to connect, communicate, learn and be creative in a number of different ways on a range of devices. However the internet is always changing and being able to keep up to date with your children’s use of technology can be a challenge. You may sometimes feel that your children have better technical skills than you do, however children and young people still need advice and protection when it comes to managing their lives online.
Thinkuknow is the national online safety education programme from the National Crime Agency. Thinkuknow offers learning activities, advice and support for children and young people aged 4-18 and their families. The for 4s to 7s will help you start a conversation about online safety and for 8s to 10s, there’s the Play Like Share animations. Visit thinkuknow for further information on keeping your child safe online.

Domestic Abuse
In order to be safe it is important that children are protected from witnessing domestic abuse. Managing situations can be difficult for parents and advice and support is available.Domestic Abuse Helplines
Operation Encompass
Our school is part of Operation Encompass. This is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Abuse.
Operation Encompass means that the police will share information about Domestic Abuse incidents with our school soon after they have been called to a domestic incident. All Key Adults (Designated Safeguarding Lead or a Deputy) have attended an Operation Encompass local briefing as well as national online training. Our parents are fully aware that we are an Operation Encompass school. The Operation Encompass information is stored in line with all other confidential safeguarding and child protection information.
The Key Adult has also led briefings for all school staff and Governors about Operation Encompass, the prevalence of Domestic Abuse and the impact of this abuse on children. We have also discussed how we can support our children following the Operation Encompass notification. The Safeguarding Governor will report on Operation Encompass in the termly report to Governors. All information is anonymised for these reports. The Key Adult has used the Operation Encompass Toolkit to ensure that all appropriate actions have been taken by the school.
Bullying
If you have a concern about bullying you should discuss it with a senior member of staff as soon as possible. We always have two senior staff available to discuss concerns with parents. Our Anti-Bullying Policy has been very successful in quickly resolving issues and can be viewed on the policies section of the website. Useful information and guidance for parents about supporting their child if they are worried about bullying is provided by BCP council and can be accessed on-line.
Alternatively some of the sources of support which are signposted in the BCP guidance can be accessed by following the links below.
Prevent Duty
Kingsleigh Primary School recognises it has a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. This duty is known as the Prevent duty. As a result the school has an action plan detailing the processes and actions it will take to safeguard children and identify any potential risks. This action plan can be viewed by clicking the link below.
